Important Information for GPS-MTG Users about Daylight Savings Time
Effective 2007, the start and end dates for daylight savings time (DST) have been changed. As defined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, DST will now start on the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November. This change will affect numerous electronic devices and systems, including the GPS-MTG, which are programmed to automatically change the time on the traditional DST dates in April and October. Horita Co. is developing a a firmware upgrade for the GPS-MTG to accommodate the new DST rules. In the meantime, it is recommended that MTG users disable the automatic DST correction mode and manually change the time zone value at the appropriate date and time to output the correct time information. This process is described in sections 4.9, 4.10, and 4.11 of the MTG user manual. You can also request this information by sending an email to horita@horita.com . A beta version of this firmware upgrade is available for $50 plus shipping. This update requires the replacement of an eprom and it is recommended this be performed only by a qualified technically proficient individual with experience removing and installing programmable devices. The new eprom should integrate seamlessly into units which have firmware version "MTG-H105" or later installed, or those purchased after April 1998. Older MTG's may have to be returned to the factory for additional hardware upgrades at a nominal charge. It is strongly recommended the old eprom be stored safely in case the legislature reverts to the traditional DST schedule at some future date. Horita has no control or influence over the actions of Congress and assumes no liability for any incidental or consequential loss, damage, or expense arising directly or indirectly from the use of its equipment, separately or in combination with the DST legislation. |
